The Citrus aurantifolia is a shrubby tree part of the Rutaceae family that is native to tropical Asia. It grows up to 5 m with many thorns. Its flowers are white with purple edges, and grows a spherical yellow fruit when it’s ripe. However, the fruit is picked green commercially.
No one knows for sure where limes originated from, however, some believe that they come from the Indonesian archipelago or potentially nearby the mainland of Asia. Limes spread throughout the world as the Arabs may have taken limes to India, the eastern Mediterranean countries and Africa around 1000 A.D.
