The Commiphora myrrha is part of the Burseraceae family, and while it’s classified as a shrub; Myrrh can grow up to 30 feet in height. It’s native to Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and Yemen. The trunk exudes a natural oleo resin that hardens into what is classified as reddish brown ‘tears’.
Myrrh uses span as early as 600 BC when it was used for embalming and fumigation in Ancient Egypt. It was also used as an ingredient in incense and perfume but is now more popular for its ability to support healthy, radiant skin.
