The Melissa officinalis is a bushy herb that is a part of the Lamiaceae family. It is native to Europe but has spread throughout much of North America. Melissa has flowers that vary from white to yellowish that grow in loose, small bunches from the axils of the leaves. The flowers bloom from June to October. The plant dies down in winter, but the root is perennial.
Melissa has been used for hundreds of years, in the 14th century, the French Carmelite nuns included it in tonic water. In the 16th century, a famous philosopher, physician, and botanist called it “The Elixir of Life”. This oil was known throughout history as an asset for your memory and for chasing away the blues.
