The Myristica fragrans comes from a trees that is a part of the Myristica family and originates in Indonesia. It can grow up to 20 meters height and produces an apricot-like fruit. Once ripened, the fruit bursts and exposes the seed sheltered by a soft fleshy covering.
According to some, Nutmeg was discovered as early as the 4th century in parts of Vietnam and South China, but it was originally native to the islands in the Banda Sea. This spice was marketed as a cure for the plague, and the wars to control the monopoly over this spice were many. Nutmeg no longer holds as much weight in gold, but it’s still utilized worldwide and most homes consider it a staple.
