The Mentha piperita plant that is part of the Lamiaceae family, which was indigenous to Europe and the Middle East; however, it is now grown worldwide. Peppermint grows to be 30-90cm tall with smooth stems, square in cross section; leaves are dark green with reddish veins, and produces small purple flowers.
Peppermint (Supreme) is regarded as one of the oldest herbs used for medicinal purposes in Europe. However, other accounts would state it was used in Japanese and Chinese folk medicine. And yet others say that peppermint was found in several Egyptian Pyramids prior to 1000 B.C.
