He says that he’s “passionate about using new technologies to create teaching and learning experiences that make education more accessible and more engaging. Instructional videos, virtual reality, and old-fashioned textbooks are my favorite tools,” he said.
This week 20 Calhoun youth have the opportunity to experience the excitement of Tyler Dewitt in person at a Science Camp at Calhoun Middle High School. The day began with a lesson on microbes. Microscopic creatures—including bacteria, fungi and viruses—that can make you ill. But what you may not realize is that trillions of microbes are living in and on your body right now. Most don’t harm you at all. In fact, they help you digest food, protect against infection and even maintain your reproductive health.
Tyler’s teaching style kept the students engaged and asking questions and his comedy quips of science truths kept them laughing.
Their first assignment was to take a petri dish and collect some microbes to study. Each student was given a Petri dish, a few cotton swabs and sent throughout the school on the assignment with the instructions to collect and label 4-6 samples.
Excited to begin the students went in multiple directions, most in search of highly germ filled surfaces.
