In a complaint filed in Calhoun Magistrate Court, Deputy C.R. Stephens, of the Calhoun Sheriff’s Department, reported that on December 17th, 2024 at approximately 7:52 p.m. he was dispatched to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of North Calhoun Highway and Frederick Drive. Calhoun Dispatch advised Deputy Stephens that a vehicle had struck a telephone pole and power was out in the area. Once on scene he observed a white F150 on the road bank having cut a telephone pole in half. The Deputy made contact with the
driver who stated he had fallen asleep and crashed on his way home from working in the oil field for 28 days straight.
While talking with the driver he noticed the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his breath. The driver stated that he had drank one Twisted Tea since leaving work. In looking in the vehicle, Deputy Stephens found five empty cans in the passenger floorboard of the vehicle.
The driver of the F150 truck was identified as 26 year old, Jacob White of Grantsville. He was asked to perform field sobriety tasks to which he agreed. Both a Standardized Field Sobriety as well as Standardized Seated Field Sobriety were conducted for which Mr. White performed poorly on most tasks. He agreed to give a preliminary breath sample which resulted in a 0.100 BrAC in the portable breath test.
Due to not having access to an Intoxylizer at the State Police Barracks, Deputy Stephens asked White if he would consent to a blood draw for which he indicated he would. White was arrested for DUI, and transported to Minnie Hamilton Health Systems where a blood sample was obtained. In a post-Miranda interview, White indicated that he had been driving, been drinking several Twisted Teas and crashed, and had not had anything to drink since the crash.
Deputy Stephens transported Mr. White to the WV Virginia Central Regional Jail after having charged him with Driving Under the Influence. The defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.
