Billie Jo Minnie Obituary

Billie Jo Minney, 72, of Clover, WV, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, WV.

She was born August 27, 1951, in Calhoun County, WV, the daughter of the late Ressie and Emma Jean Helmick Minney.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Judy Smith.

Billie Jo was a 1970 graduate of Spencer High School and entered the Women’s Army Corp and was a 27-year veteran of the US Army.  Her many assignments included Korea and the Berlin Brigade.  She obtained the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank.  She was an avid gardener, history buff, and reader.  She enjoyed sharing her love of reading with her nieces and nephews and encouraging them to explore the world; telling them that they could do and be anything they wanted, if they put in the work.

Survivors include three sisters, Shirley (Jeff) Stewart of Ohio; Emma Barnhouse of Rosedale, WV, and Sue (Jim) Dunfee also of Ohio; three brothers, Junior Minney of Spencer, WV; John (Becky) Minney of Spencer, WV, and James (Mary) Minney also of Spencer, WV; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  She was a loving sister and aunt to all.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Arnoldsburg, WV, on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., with Rev. Daniel R. “Danny” Whited officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veteran Cemetery, Dunbar, WV.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com
