Calhoun County Spared Extreme Flooding

Calhoun County had multiple roads effected by flooding, but were spared major flooding when the water crested below flood stage in Grantsville at 33.26 feet around 1 a.m.

Regarding flood stage the action level for concern is at 34 feet, flooding occurs at 36, with major flooding 38 feet and above.

Glenville, West Virginia which floods at lower level, crested at 24.98 feet which is above flood stage which is 23 feet. At 22 feet the water begins to cover low spots on Brooklyn Drive, Elm Street and River Street. At 23 Feet, the low spots on Brooklyn Drive, Elm Street and River Street flood. At 25 feet, most of Elm Street floods as well as reaching the hotel foundation on Conrad Court next to the old 1885 bridge.

Schools were back in session in Calhoun today with some bus routes possibly effected.

More rain is expected on Saturday with the possibility of 3/4 of an inch. Lowering temperatures will likely change the precipitation to snow earlier in the week.

Due to severe rainstorms and high winds that resulted in flooding, downed trees, power outages, and road blockages, Governor Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency in Cabell and Kanawha Counties. The State of Emergency will remain in effect for thirty days unless terminated by the Governor.

Governor Morrisey ordered personnel and resources to prepare to mobilize and respond to any emergency and delegated certain administrative powers to the Director of the West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) to facilitate the provision of essential emergency services.

Governor Morrisey and the WVEMD ask all West Virginians to remain attentive to weather conditions through local media reports and follow any instructions issued by emergency officials.
