On Saturday August 20th Calhoun Youth Football traveled to Clay county for their second game of the season. The day started with the C team as they were defeated by Clay county 32-0. It was a hot game and the younger kids are still adjusting to wearing the helmets and other pads and they will be looking to rebound in a couple weeks when they play again. Haygan Houchin led the team in rushing as he had 71 yards on 6 carries. Colten Heiney added 12 yards rushing for the team. Houchin and Heiney each had 5 tackles to pace the defense as well. Raines Riddel and Carper Summers added 3 tackles a piece and Xander Carpenter had 1 tackle on the day.

The B team was the second game of the day and they were victorious 34-0 bringing their record to 2-0 on the season. Tyler Mayle les the team with 114 rushing yards on 8 carries. He had 2 rushing touchdowns (1 and 53 yards) and added 2 rushing extra points. Grayson Laughlin had 82 rushing yards on 6 carries with a 14 yard TD. Bentley Snodgress added 73 yards on 9 Carrie’s with a 14 yard TD and also added an extra point. Josh Hardbarger had 40 rushing yards in 5 carries with an extra point. Brantley Schoolcraft had a rushing touchdown (1 yard) on his 2 carries for 8 yards. Jase Farley rounded out the rushing with 2 Carrie’s for 3 yards. Liam Yeager had 3 passing completions for 15 yards. On the receiving end of those completions was Tyler Mayle, 2 catches for 12 yards, and Bentley Snodgress, 1 catch for 3 yards. The Little Red Devil defense completely smothered their opponent and harassed them in the backfield all day. Clay had maybe 3 play with positive yards all day and none of those were more than a yard or two. Snodgress paced the defense with 6 tackles. Carter Thompson had a big day and added 5 tackles. Grayson Laughlin, Tyler Mayle, Chandler Cottrell and Josh Hardbarger added 2 tackles a piece. Silas Cunningham and Jase Farley each had 1 tackle, and Farley added a Fumble recovery.

The A team finished up the day with a 19-0 loss. The score may not tell the whole tale of the ballgame though because aside from just a couple long scoring plays this was a close game. Preston Sauer led the Red Devil offense with 32 rushing yards on 3 carries, he also added 1 pass reception for 4 yards. Ezra Anderson added 23 yards on 4 carries on the day. Kason Stamper had 1 carry for 2 yards. Trevor Mayle added 1 pass competition for 4 yards. On the defensive side of the ball Sam Bailey led the team with 5 tackles. Preston Sauer added 4 tackles, Trevor Mayle had 3 tackles. Michael Richards, Braydon Hardway and Kason Stamper had 2 tackles each. While Ezra Anderson, Clayton Foster, Landon Hawkins and Jace Lemon each had 1 tackle. Kason Stamper also had a fumble recovery.

Next Sunday August 28th the Gilmer Little Pioneers will head to Mt Zion to take on the Little Red Devils. The flag team will start the day off at Noon. Followed by A team at 1 pm. C team will not play and have the week off as Gimer did not field a C team this season. The B team will play when the A team game is complete. Please come out and support these football players and the cheerleaders who will be there to cheer them on.
