Dollar General Store Staff Receive a Temporary Stay, Out of the Blue

The staff of the Dollar General Store in Grantsville have been on an emotional rollercoaster with the on again, off again closure of the Grantsville Store. The highly patronized business has been slated for closure for greater than a year. The company’s reason for closure was not disclosed, although the building owned by Jim Robinson of Salem, WV is in need of major repairs.

Robinson was said to have not desired a lease renewal, but wanting rather evict the Dollar General and to sell the building. The Dollar General Corporation does not want to purchase the building, so the two were at a stalemate. Staff have been living a life of uncertainty on whether or not they would have their current positions for a day or a year. But out of the blue, Jim Robinson called the Grantsville store and informed staff that he had entered into a contract with the Dollar General Corporation to lease the store through April of 2024. While that still leaves their future in question, it does give hope that perhaps there will be an opportunity to work things through.

The discount store is a vital asset to an impoverished and aging community.
