New Seed Library Locations for Our Community

Submitted by Kellie Rose, AmeriCorps Member, LifeBridge and WVU-Roane County Extension Service

The WVU Roane County Extension Office, in partnership with the West Central Extension Master Gardeners and LifeBridge AmeriCorps, would like to announce the arrival of new seed libraries in ten locations within Roane County. The libraries hold sixteen different varieties of seeds, both vegetables and flowers, purchased and/or donated by West Central Extension Master Gardeners, grant funds or individual seed companies. The seeds are changed periodically to make different varieties available. Each person is asked to take only four packages each visit to ensure there is enough for others the share in the opportunity to grow garden and flower plants from seeds.

The following locations have graciously allowed placement of the seed libraries for public access: Amma Senior Citizen Center located at 3901 Amma Rd in Amma, First Baptist Church located at 338 Main Street in Spencer, the Geary Branch of the Roane County Library located at 01 Library Lane in Left Hand, the WVU Extension Office located in the basement of the Roane County Library at 110 Parking Plaza in Spencer, the Walton Branch of the Roane County Library located at 02 Cunningham Lane in Walton, the Roane County Family Support Center at 201 Main Street located in Spencer, Roane General Hospital Fitness Complex/ Physical Therapy Center located at 200 Hospital Drive in Spencer, the Spencer Branch of the Roane County Library located at 110 Parking Plaza in Spencer, Roane County Community Resources, Inc. located at 811 Madison Avenue in Spencer within the same building as the Committee on Aging, Roane County Courthouse, located at 200 Main Street in Spencer, and at Reedy Grocery, located at 22 Main Street in Reedy.

The WVU Roane County Extension Office along with the West Central Extension Master Gardeners and LifeBridge AmeriCorps hope these libraries encourage community member across the county to start gardening, enjoy some physical activity, and enjoy being outdoors this spring and throughout the growing season.  If you have any questions or concerns about the seed libraries, you can reach out to the WVU-Roane County Extension office at 304-927-0975.
