Two Cases Heard in Circuit Court by Judge Anita Ashley

Judge Anita Harold Ashley held a brief session of court on Tuesday, April 16th, 2024 in Calhoun County. 

The first case on the docket was State of West Virginia vs. John Eric Hunt who has been charged with “Conspiracy to Commit a Violation of Chater 60A and Possession with the Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance. Hunt, being represented by Attorney David Richardson, appeared for a case status where Prosecuting Attorney Michael Hicks informed the judge that the State was requesting an additional status hearing following the co defendant entering a plea and they are now in negotiation with John Eric Hunt as to a plea agreement. The status hearing will be held on Monday, June 3, at 10:45 a.m. with a Trial date of July 30th, 2024. 

The second and last case of the day was Joseph Earl Yoak who entered a guilty plea to the charges of Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and Failure to register as a sex offender. The attorney for Mr. Yoak was Daniel Minardi, who speaking on Yoak’s behalf stated that he believed the plea was in the best interest of his client. The plea of guilty was accepted y Judge Ashley and the case was continued for sentencing following a 6-8 week pre-sentence investigation by Probation Officer, Alicia Lawson.
