500 Pounds of Trout will Soon be Swimming in the Pond of Calhoun County Park!

By Cory Boothe

Residents of Calhoun County have reason to celebrate! In the near future, trout will be swimming in Calhoun County! To be specific, 500 pounds of trout will be stocked in the ponds at the Calhoun County Park. 100 pounds of which will be brooder size fish. These are larger fish that can be well over four pounds.

As appropriate, youth should have the first opportunity for the trout. Therefore, fishing will open with a youth weekend on April 2nd and 3rd. Starting time each day will be 8 a.m. Youth ages eight and under will be at the pond by the campground. Youth ages 9-17 will be at the main pond in the center of the park.

This trout opportunity is made possible by a generous contribution from Dominion Resources. In addition to the trout, Dominion and Calhoun Bank will be providing gifts for youth on youth day this April 2nd and 3rd. Gifts will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Also, contributions made towards a GoFundMe account for trout will be used to offer an additional stocking this fall around October or November.

The daily limit for trout is six. A license is required where appropriate and it should be expected to see Natural Resource Conservation Officers in the area. Anyone observing illegal activity should contact 911.
Thanks to all volunteers and people who contributed to make this happen. Hopefully, the citizens of Calhoun will have similar opportunities for years to come.
