Alice Holmes, Founder and President of the Grantsville Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts, received a grant from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) in the amount of $7,150.00 for the purchase of instruments and a recording studio on Tuesday, December 6. Richard Lowe of Wirt County, representing the Little Kanawha Area Foundation, presented the check as well as Julie Posey (not pictured, from PACF).
Alice has been working with several instructors to offer multi instrument instruction including guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, piano and drum. The Conservatory is housed in the building of Alice’s Attic on Main Street where it has recently had a new floored installed for an exercise and dance studio in the down stairs. On the first level, in addition to the music classrooms, is an excellent restaurant, Music Store and gift shop. The new recording studio will be located in the down stairs area and will hopefully serve to bring in additional income to the Conservatory by offering music, podcast and other recording opportunities with the help of Mike Franek. The Music Conservatory has been a wonderful addition to the Calhoun area that has always been rich in talented musicians.
