In a complaint filed in Calhoun Magistrate Court on May 9, 2023, Trooper J.D. Richards wrote that at approximately 9 p.m. he received information from Calhoun Control of a 911 hang up and then a third party report of an aggressive argument with yelling and thumping at the address of 651 North Grantsville Road, Grantsville. When he arrived on scene, the Trooper made contact with 36 year old Michael Allen Metz and asked what was going on. He responded that “Nothing was going on,” and that there was no female present.
There was an additional building on the property that looked abandoned for which Trooper Richards asked Metz if there was anyone inside. Michael Metz responded “Not as far as he knew.” The Trooper then opened the door to the trailer and yelled for the victim to come out, for which she did. Upon questioning her she stated that she and Metz had gotten into an argument earlier where he began throwing and breaking things. At one point throwing an object which struck the victim on the left shin leaving a noticeably swollen area.
The Trooper noted in the complaint that Mr. Metz and the victim were formerly married and that Metz had intentionally told him that the victim was not on the premises and that he did not know where she was. The 911 Hang-up came from residence but when Metz answered a return call from Calhoun Control he reported that everything was fine. Inside the residence was broken objects not limited to furniture, decorations, etc. from the aggressive acts of Mr. Metz. Trooper Richards took the accused into custody on the charge of domestic battery and transported him to the Central Regional Jail. He is awaiting trial on Domestic Battery 3rd offense following the discovery of two additional convictions on March 13, 2008 and September 24, 2018.
If convicted Metz will be guilty of a felony charge that carries not less than one, nor more than five years confinement or fined not more than $2,500 or both.
