Milford Newton Nichols, 76, of Grantsville, died on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Parkersburg, WV.
He was born in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Milford K. and Mary Dodrill Nichols. He attended schools in Clay County, Raleigh County, and was a 1966 graduate of Calhoun County High School and a 1970 graduate of Glenville State College. Newton recently retired after many years as the editor of The Calhoun Chronicle. He was also owner/operator of The Grantsville Printing Company, editor/operator of The Grantsville News, and served time on the Calhoun County Commission and as recorder for the Town of Grantsville. He was an avid fan of Calhoun County sports, archery, sports cards and stamp collecting, and his family.
Surviving are two daughters, Penny Nichols Stirling and Joni Middleton of Parkersburg; one son, Newton Nichols (Joni) of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Tyler McClain, Jarod Harper, Kaleigh Middleton of Parkersburg and Amelia Nichols of Lewisburg; great grandchildren, Daylen and Sullivan Harper of Parkersburg.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kelles and Beulah Nichols and William S. and Elizabeth Dodrill, all of Clay and two sisters, Mary Riffle and Ellen Bowe, each of Charleston.
A memorial service to honor Newton’s life will be held on Sunday, November 17th, at 2:00 pm. at the Calhoun County Park Barn, Grantsville, WV.
