Students from the Calhoun Gilmer Career Center who competed in the TSA Statewide Competition, winning 1st place in their division will now compete in the National Competition which will be held in Texas In June. The student must raise $8,000 for travel and expense for the trip, which they have raised $4,000 of already. They’re continuing to raise funds through selling pepperoni rolls made by the Culinary Program through Calhoun Gilmer Career Center.
During Kellie Whytsell’s Superintendent Report she updated the board on the Wayne Underwood field. She informed the Board that she would be making the recommendation that the field be given to The 1982 Foundation once they were provided with proof of their 501c3 non profit status. She further stated that with the field would be too hard to maintain and the buildings needed multiple costly repairs. A recent inspection of the field had already required them to do brush and poison ivy removal from the area to prevent children from being at risk. Mrs. Whytsell said that she had spoken to attorneys Bowls and Rice and hopes to have the matter taken care of and ready for transfer by the end of June to get it off of the books in the same fiscal year. There will still be a reversion clause in the deed that will cause it revert back to the school if it’s not being used and developed recreation.
Hortz Motz asked if Crystal Mersh was okay with the clause being in the deed to which Mrs. Whytsell responded that she was much okay with it and very easy to work with. She also stated that she would be writing an letter to help the 1982 Foundation expedite their receipt of their 501c3.
