The West Virginia Department of Tourism recently released the 2022 Tourism Guide and Calhoun County has made the cut. The 4 book set of Special Vacation Guides offers travel planning and information on Outdoor Recreation, Mountain Culture, The New River Gorge National Park & Reserve and Natural Wonders. It is in the latter, ”Natural Wonders”, that Calhoun County has made it’s debut as a tourism site, featuring the Calhoun County Park and their candidacy for the International Dark Skies Status.
Professional and amateur Astronomers alike have put Calhoun County on the map with the attention they’ve drawn to our county being one of the darkest places in West Virginia which allows a clear sky view of the Milky Way and the aurora borealis.
