Calhoun County Park Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Park Cabin

Calhoun County Park in Cooperation with Calhoun Gilmer Career Center hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the site of their newly built Cabin that will soon be available to rent.

Calhoun Gilmer Career Center students have spent three years building and detailing a beautiful space for park visitors, such as the Star Gazers, to enjoy the many adventures available at the Calhoun County Park. Paul Parsons, Construction Instructor said this project was a far cry from the typical 29 day projects his students had undertaken such as a tiny house previously built for a flood victim in Webster Springs. The park cabin took three years to complete with multiple student involvement, business partners and volunteers with all names listed on a sign in the living space.

The next project to be under construction by the Calhoun Gilmer Career Center will be a Picnic Shelter/Bath House just across the driveway from the cabin.

Also attending the event were three Stargazing Astronomers who enjoy spending weekends at the park to take advantage of the darkest skies east of the Mississippi. Glen Ward of Frostburg, Maryland. Dean Salsbury of Butler, PA, and Larry McHenry of Baldwin, PA
