The Calhoun County School Board met Tuesday, December 12th for their December meeting as well as the Local School Improvement Council for Calhoun Middle High School. A moment of silence was held at the beginning of the meeting for several local community members struggling with health and other issues. The opening of the meeting was followed by a mini concert by the Middle School Choir students and the Calhoun Middle High School Band. Below is a link to the 20 minute video of their performance.
Students were recognized from 5th through 12th grades for exceeding the General Summative Assessment (GSA). Photo’s below which do not have every student pictured.

Following the acknowledgement of student achievements and other awards, Assistant Principal Gina Stump presented the Local School Improvement Council report for Calhoun Middle High School with several statistics and program presentations by students.
Slides were presented by Gina Stump with the recent results from students testing for their levels of understanding of English and Math in comparison to the State levels. Both continue to be evident of youth struggling following the Covid years.
Prior to the actual meeting starting Deidre Purdy, President of the Democrat Executive Committee spoke to the Board Members about their desire to provide new sound equipment for the auditorium of Calhoun County Schools. She stated that they were working to form a new 501c3 and are receiving quotes from Paul Brown a Theatre and Sound specialist form Minnesota.
The Regular School Board meeting followed with discussions and reports on the Calhoun Gilmer Career Center by Horst Motz, Superintendent reports by Kelli Whytsell on the Required Trainings per WVBE Policy or WV Code, Literacy Progress by grade, School Calendar Development for FY24 and Vaping Issues at CMHS (Separate story to follow).
