Calhoun Youth Football Travels to Braxton

Calhoun Youth Football traveled to Braxton County on Sunday to take on the Braxton Redskins. The flag team started off the day for the Red Devils and showed some improvement this week scoring 4 touchdowns. Kayleb Harris scored 2 touchdowns, Jaxon Snodgress and Gunner Burrows also scored a touchdown a piece. 

The A team was the next to take the field. They were given an uphill battle from the start as they would be facing an undefeated Braxton County Squad. While they saw a lot of improvement from previous weeks, the Devils were unable to get their first win on the season as they fell to the Redskins 30-0. Jason Stamper led the rushing attack for Calhoun with 45 yards on 4 carries. Ezra Anderson had some tough runs late in the game gaining 28 yards on 3 carries. Preston Sauer added 11 yards on 3 carries. Sam Bailey carried the ball 3 times gaining 8 yards and Trevor Mayle was able to gain 6 yards on 3 attempts. Mayle was able to add 24 passing yards on 4 completions. On the receiving end of those passes were Michael Richards and Preston Sauer. Richards had 1 catch for 16 yards and Sauer had 8 receiving yards on 3 receptions. On Defense Sauer and Sam Bailey led the charge with 5 tackles each. Braydon Hardway, Trevor Mayle, Eddie Burrows and Landon Hawkins had 3 tackles each. Ezra Anderson, Clayton Foster, Kason Stamper and Zac Smith each had 2 tackles and Cohen Blankenship had 1 tackle. Braydon had an Interception and Mayle rounded out the stats with a blocked extra point kick. 

C Team was next in the field and they also fell on the day to the Redskins 32-0. This young team is learning and improving each week and had several nice plays. Haygan Houchin led the team in rushing with 48 yards on 6 rushes. Quinten Parkin added 3 yards in 2 carries. On Defense Carper Summers had 3 tackles to lead the team. Haygan Houchin, Colton Heiney and Quinten Parking had 2 tackles each. Michael McClain added 1 tackle. Raines Riddle had 2 fumble recoveries on the day. 1 of them he ripped from the running backs grasp and took off down the field being tackles just shy of the goal line. Almost taking it in for a Red Devil score. 

The B team finished up the day much like they have every other week. Keeping their undefeated record in tact. They were able to hold the Redskins out of the end zone just like in every other game this year having not allowed any points to date. The final score was 48-0. Tyler Mayle led the Red Devil offense scoring 4 touchdowns in the day. He carried the ball 7 times and was able to gain 173 yards. His 4 touchdowns was 25, 22, 43 and 47 yards. He also had a rushing extra point. Bentley Snodgress gained 48 yards in 8 carries which included a 9 yard touchdown run and a rushing extra point. Josh Hardbarger had a 32 yard rushing touchdown. Grayson Laughlin had 4 rushing yards and Jace Farley added a 3 yard extra point run. Liam Yeager had 21 passing yards in 4 completions. One of which was an extra point pass. Grayson Laughlin had 11 receiving yards on 2 catches. Bentley Snodgress added 7 yards receiving and Tyler Mayle had a 3 yard extra point reception. Defensively the Red Devils had another outstanding day giving up very few yards. Grayson Laughlin, Chandler Cottrell and Tyler Mayle led the charge with 5 tackles each. Josh Hardbarger and Liam Yeager each had 3 tackles. Bentley Snodgress added 2 and Jace Farley and Silas Cunningham each had 1 tackle. Liam Yeager was able to add a quarterback sack. And Josh Hardbarger picked off a Redskin pass and took the Interception back 55 yards for a touchdown. 

The Red Devils will host the Roane County Littlw Raiders this coming Sunday September 18th at Calhoun High School. Flag game will start at Noon. A team will begin at 1 pm with C and B teams to follow.
