Bus driver Chris Lacy was visually emotional as he was ask to share the details of a tragic story with a better ending because of his compassion and awareness as a school bus driver. Chris was on his normal Munday Road Bus route when he seen “something or someone” lying in the ditchline on Route 5 West not far from the home of Dave Prusack. He turned his bus around to go back and check, but didn’t expect to find what he did. A sixteen year old girl, laying in the ditch without a coat, in wet, torn and tattered clothing and no shoes on the days just after the snow storm a few weeks ago. The temperature was in the mid twenties.

The parents of the child were on scene and asked Mr. Lacy not to get the police involved. But he said, “I knew the right thing to do was get this girl warm and in safe hands.” Calhoun Control and The West Virginia State Police were contacted and the young girl was taken to Minnie Hamilton Health System for treatment.

The Calhoun County Board of Education gave Mr. Lacy a certificate for his selfless act and commended him for a job well done.
