Creston News

Eight year old Remington Raines was the winner at the Creston ATV poker run followed by Robin Coplin & Penny Sanders.  Gerald Watson won the 50/50.  There were 190 riders and the community would like to thank all who came & rode, those who set up & took down the trail, worked the stations, did the signups, did all the paperwork including the maps, fixed & served the food, cleaned the building, parked the trucks & trailers, donated door prizes, sold tee shirts, mailed the cards, sent the e-mails and everything else that made the event a success.  Several saw, for the first time, the historic Ruble church and a lot of fun was had at the famous Munday beach, a place one where can enjoy the beach and not have to contend with condominiums & jellyfish.

Rev. Kevin Gillespie filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church and served Holy Communion.

Fall arrived in Creston and, right on clue, there was rain and a drop in the temperature.  The folks who spray for government lady bugs (Asiatic beetles) and government stink bugs noted that over where they live there was frost.

A speaker from a non partisan group gave a presentation in Elizabeth on the impacts of the proposed Amendment #2 which would make vehicles and industrial inventory & equipment non taxable.  Some counties would lose almost 40% of their taxable property if the proposal passed & the status of entities taxed as utilities is unknown.  Baldy Blair put out a “report” and a “plan” that would let the legislature “fill” the tax loss for the counties with the current excess revenue generated by high coal, oil & gas prices via the severance tax.  Those who are involved in oil & gas know that such is cyclical & everyone knows that the ruling elite, like Madame Hillary, promised to bankrupt a lot of coal companies & put coal miners out of work.  The ESG and Blackrock folks want all fossil fuels gone.  Some remember when James Earl Carter shut down the domestic drilling operations to benefit his & Bert Lance’s Arab buddies.  At that time drilling rigs were cut up for scrap and shipped to steel mills in the orient.  It was noted that in all the talk about the wonders of the amendment no one has brought up the state school aid formula and the impact the proposed tax reduction would have on that.  One group was told, “You better not say anything or we’ll go after you!”.  It was noted that such indicated thuggish behavior and likely shows the real nature of the folks who are behind passing the amendment.  Folks who would take terms like moral turpitude as words of endearment and folks who could fit right in with brother James & son Hunter.  It is now clear that the purpose is to give a $billion dollar tax break for certain well connected out of state entities and shift the burden onto homes and farms.

Josh McAbee moved to Colorado so that he could attend truck driving school.

A federal court action was brought to set aside the forced pooling bill that the legislature passed so that West Virgina residents would never be paid world class royalties & bonuses for the world class oil & gas formations that underly most of the state.  The judge ruled that Jimmy Justice was not a proper defendant so now the suit has been refiled with the attorney general as a defendant.  Some folks were threatened to support that legislation “or else”.  No doubt about it, we have the best money can buy.

Leasing & drilling continues [though not in the Creston area] and earlier in the month a new record was set for natural gas production in the “lower 48”.  That is 100.1 bcf.[billion cubic feet/day] was the production.  The green weenies want it all stopped “now” but even Tom Friedman of the New York Slimes had to admit that it will take decades to go away from fossil fuels.  In addition there will continue to be need for oil, gas and coal as a raw materials for all the components of modern living.  It seems that pixie dust is not a very good precursor for plastics & organic chemicals generally.  Grease made from petroleum is far and above superior to having to use lard, tallow or suet to lubricate bearings & gears and it would seem that returning to the killing of whales to get whale oil for an illuminant and lubricant is now objectionable to most folks even flaming liberals.

Brandon Ferrell was visiting Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell & family.

Folks are reminded that next Saturday, October 1 is Pioneer Day in Elizabeth with a Civil War reenactment on October 2.

There was a big meeting in Pittsburgh for the Global Clean Energy Action Association including the haughty John Kerry [Jon carry] who travels the world in a big jet.  One of the takeaways from the meeting was that hydrogen was good but hydrogen made from natural gas was bad.  95% of the hydrogen is made from natural gas. One Pennsylvania natural gas utility is talking about mixing hydrogen into the natural gas stream.  Some may remember seeing pictures of the Hindenberg when it caught fire.
