The Creston Community Building Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday December 20 at the Community Building. The event starts at 2 P. M.
So far it has been a much slow deer season with not a lot of success. Some nice 8 & 10 pointers were bagged near Creston and there are still some does routinely seen but the disease obviously decimated the local deer herd although it might be asking far too much to be able to grow alfalfa in local meadows.
Some local folks participated in the tree lighting ceremony at Sportsman’s Park in Elizabeth. The crew did a bang up job with all the lights.
Some new holes have come at both ends of the Creston LKR bridge. Time will tell if repair is included in Engineer Evans’ “Core Maintenance Manual”. At the recent Calhoun County Commission meeting a speaker noted that backroads in Calhoun had so little maintenance that they were not safe for equine activities. Engineer Evans had been adamant that “Core Maintenance” excluded many roads in local counties.
Hadley Propst was attending to business in Creston while her mother was harvesting a nice 8 point.
Asplundh cut down several saw logs along W. Va. 5 along where Okey J. Campbell formerly lived [the old Jim Petty place]. Some of the logs were cut up in firewood lengths. It would seem that the intent was to clear the way to connect a section of electric lines to perhaps improve service for Creston’s western suburbs.
The comely Kim was visiting with Wilma Mowrey. She noted that her work had picked up and there was now overtime as folks were buying guns again.
Kathleen Cervone & Barbara Wright were visiting friends and family up on Ohio.
Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell & family were visiting down in Georgia.
Some local folks attended the “Meet & Greet” for Angie Adams held Saturday on duPont Road in Parkersburg. She is a candidate for the legislature from the 14th district which is on the “other end” of Wirt County and southern Wood County.
With the shooting of two W. Va. National Guard members in the nation’s capitol and the death of a beautiful young woman from Webster County the danger of the world wide terror war [the intifada] was brought home to local folks. With all the terrorists that were allowed in the country during the Biden Junta there is now no place that is safe until they are all found, rounded up and deported. One of the illegal alien truck drivers who had a CDL killed a person in Cheat Lake up near Morgantown some while back.
The IEA (International Energy Agency) has now gone away from the net zero hokum and noted that global oil demand will increase 0.9 million bbl./day through 2026 and the will increase to 1.2 million barrels/day in 2027. Countries with growth such as India and Indonesia are not interested in solar, windmills and pixie dust that have already shown not to be reliable. Stated another way, they are not “woke”.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) voted to put a special tax on proposed new AI data centers “to make sure electric rates aren’t raised on homeowners”. This makes data center locations in West Virginia [such as the Fairfax place on the Little Kanawha near Annamoriah] much more doable at reduced cost. Hey, is anyone awake down at the Mouth of the Elk? The local area has huge gas reserves there is a place for the local gas fired power plant and numerous data centers not dependent on the grid which is not reliable.
Levi & Braden Ferrell were among those honored by the Calhoun County Commission for their Cross Country sports participation.
Mr. & Mrs. “Cooter” Marks, Mr. & Mrs. John Griffin, Mr. & Mrs. R. P. Marks, Brooklyn & Ryland, J. P. Marks, Christina Lucas & Tristian were calling on Mr. & Mrs. A. C. Marks, Thomas & Curtis.
The whiners have been blaming Trump for the high price of steak but the matter is much more complex and involves, in part, bad government actions over decades to eliminate American agriculture. Al Gore Jr. once pontificated that we should get all our food from third world countries to “avoid pollution”. A major part of the current problem is that four outfits [some foreign owned] control 85% of the beef market. Tyson, JBS, Cargill & National Beef are in the driver’s seat and it isn’t a pretty sight. Presently there are 88 million beef cattle in the nation, the least since 1951 and over five recent years 107,000 beef growers [farmers & ranchers] are gone [were eliminated]. Not so long back Spencer, Parkersburg, Lamberton (Ellenboro), Weston & Marietta all had livestock markets. Now the only one is in Ripley. Perhaps now that the green weenies have been shown to just a fraud, folks will be able to farm, keep cattle, sheep & hogs and feed their neighbors and those who live in nearby towns. For certain the present situation creates a national food & security issue. The W. Va. Dept. of Ag has done their part but more need to step up to the plate.
Wirt & Ritchie Counties have been producing crude oil since the 1850s and the local area remains the center of the largest oil & gas fields on the planet. Presently the Marcellus & Utica formations produce 31% of the total natural gas produced in the nation and it is noted that there will be more drilling including, perhaps locally where the Utica is 1,100 feet thick. For certain data centers will need power and now the thing is gas fired power plants like the one along I-77 in Guernsey County Ohio. It and another plant sold for $3.8 billion. Natural gas [elsewhere] is $4.85/MMBTU and WTI (West Texas crude) is $59.48/bbl. While Brent (North Sea crude) is $63.13/bbl. Local Pennsylvania grade crude fell to $56.95/bbl. while condensate [super mountain high test or drip] was just $38.95/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light was $45.95/bbl. Gasolene in Parkersburg was $2.68/gallon.
