This weekend is the Wood Festival in Grantsville. Several Creston folks attend and participate.
Some local folks went to Vienna to hear W. Va. State Treasurer Larry Pack speak at the Reagan Dinner. They were almost late as a contractor using brand new high dollar equipment was cutting the trees along Murdoch Avenue, perhaps even cutting trees on private property. It had been told that the state road cut only cut trees when not impacting the bats but rules must have changed. The only possible reason for the timber job was to generate cash flow for the well connected contractor as several businness would have to be moved to widen the highwy. What else are tax payer dollars supposed to be used for?
Carmen Queen, age 95, passed away in Wood County. She was a daughter of Thomas & Sylvia Cheuvront Grim. Her brother Vance presently resides at the Elizabeth Care Center.
A good crowd was on hand Saturday of the Creston yard sale/flea market at the Creston Community Building. Some Calhoun folks who had no power came for breakfast and a hot cup of coffee.
Mr. & Mrs. Ricky Tucker moved to Ohio & Teddy Ball & Sandy moved to the former Tucker residence.
A while back there was a big announcement for a power plant & data center between Thomas & Davis on 500 acres. Now the plans have expanded to a 10,000 acre facility in both Tucker & Grant counties. Over the line in Pennsylvania there is talk that “things are moving fast there for such”.
It was learned that now there are only two remaining Methodist churches in Calhoun County, Albert’s Chapel & Mt. Zion. The hierarchy is not happy with Mt. Zion as there is a graveyard connected to the church and one cannot get top dollar for buildings that have attached cemeteries & have deed clauses talking about property being used only for religious purposes. The Global Methodist Church is now active in Wood County. That group does not go along with the “new versions” of what folks should do.
It was reported that a coal mine is to reopen in Clay County. The press release indicates that some folks are able to write flowery articles so time will tell.
It was reported that the values assigned by the W. Va. State Tax Department for Marcellus & Utica wells was greatly reduced so as to give the ‘boys a break”. At the same time landowners are taxed for gross income even though the net [actual] royalty checks are far less. The state men believe that the taxpayers should help out those whose incomes are over $million/month/lateral well.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dipped to $59.79/bbl. With condensate (super Mountain Hightest) fetching just $41.79/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light was $48.79/bbl. Natural gas [elsewhere]is $3.46 but gas from Wirt County sold to Mountaineer Gas was $2.224. Gasoline in Parkersburg is now $2.64/gallon.
