The Dollar General Store has been a vital business in Calhoun County with an economy that is one of the lowest in the State. Families and Senior Citizens depend on the low prices and the convenience of it’s location to feed their families and provide daily essentials. But due to an aging building, and an aging building owner the store will be leaving this location by the time the lease is up in April of 2023. Jim Robinson, who currently owns the building is now in his 80’s. Many may remember him from the days of the ”Ben Franklin” store that Mr. Robinson owned and operated in this same location for many years. But the building has fallen into disrepair and Mr. Robinson no longer desires to keep it up.
The Dollar General Store is looking to relocate in an area out of the flood plain. When a new store is built it is possible that it will be a Dollar General Plus, which will also have fresh produce and additional grocery items.
When speaking to Mayor Robert Petrovsky, he said he is very concerned that the Town of Grantsville will be facing yet another empty storefront on Main Street. He is trying to find another business of interest or another plan for the location that would help the city and it’s residents.
