Duane Poling and Stull Families receive County Park Tributes

by Linda Prine Jarvis

The Calhoun County Park Trail signage project is accomplished!  The Park Board would like to thank West Virginia University and WVU Extension Service for funding this project which willincrease utilization of the trail and physical activity at Calhoun County Park.  Two Map Signs display the Walking Trail and other features of the park and their locations.  On the trail, Distance Markerssigns will show each half mile walked and enter/exit signs along the 3.2-mile trail.  Three Historical Signs placed along the trail provide thought-provoking important information related to the Park’s background.  Working on this Fall Project gave me an appreciation for nature’s beauty that I will never forget.  Climbing “Big Mama” is a challenge for anyone!  Be sure to search for unique findings on your trek, such as the “Five Forks Tree” with five trunks from one spot!  Enjoy!

Read the entertaining and historical account by the Stull brothers of their time on the Park grounds when it was a working farm.

Duane Poling was one of the earliest members of the Park’s Board Members and served as chairman for years during which time the trail was created.
