Homeowner Kevin Cunningham heard a “pop” in his home about midnight on July 14th, 2025 and after investigating inside and out, discovered flames coming from the roof of their home. The fire began in the attic causing Kevin to believe it was possibly an electrical issue. He stated that because he was awake, he was able to discover it quickly and call 911. The outcome may have been worse if he too had been asleep, due to the fire being directly over he and his wife Ashley’s bedroom. He said that the smoke alarm did not sound until the ceiling fell in once the fire departments had arrived because the smoke was going upward and not down into the house.
The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department and Arnoldsburg VFD both responded to the fire. Mr. Cunningham believes the home is repairable but did have smoke and water damage as well.
We are grateful that Mr. And Mrs. Cunningham and their two children were safe.
