Following a drop in temperature, Calhoun roads along Route 16 North became a shiny surface of destruction at a time when many buses and local residents were attempting to get to school and work. Calhoun EMS, Calhoun Sheriff Warren Basnett and the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched at around 7:35 a.m. to a multiple car accident with no injuries.
State road crews were dispatched to salt the scene but it was too late for several drivers who slid into one another and the guard rail. Emergency Volunteers directed traffic, assisted drivers, and cleared the scene with the help of Westfall’s Wrecker Service. Flurries have continued throughout the day but no further reports of icy roads.
The photos clearly show the icy conditions that caught drivers off guard today.
