In a complaint filed by Deputy C.R. Stephens on November 18th, 2024, he reported that Calhoun Control had called him, advising that a subject wearing blue jean pants and blue jean jacket was trying to break in the residence at 1301 Walker Road and was damaging vehicles by throwing cinder blocks.
Prior to Stephens arrival in the area, the caller advised the subject had left the property and was walking on Walker Road towards Route 16 carrying a club in his hand. Upon the arrival of Deputy Stephens and Deputy Hunt on Walker Road just off Route 16, the suspect, later identified as Scott Butler, was being held down and detained by father of the victim, Jeffery Hoff. Butler was detained and read his Miranda Rights.
L After securing Butler, Deputies Stephens and Hunt traveled to the residence and observed four different vehicles that were damaged. The damages included a broken front windshield, broken rear windshield, broken passenger window, and multiple paint scratches. Based on Deputy Stephens experience, damage was believed to be upwards of $4,000.
Both victims within the residence stated that Butler attempted to gain entrance into the residence by beating on the sliding glass door, with at least one of them advising that Butler had made threats toward killing Brooke Nicholson in the past. This caused great fear in the victims causing one of them to retreat to a rear bedroom of the residence and retrieve a firearm for protection.
Deputy Stephens observed the firearm on the kitchen table during his investigation. Also on scene was Trooper Perdue of the West Virginia State Police.
Butler is being charged with Felony attempted burglary and felony destruction of property but is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Following arraignment he is being held on $50,000 in the WV Central Regional Jail.
