The article below originally ran on the 31st of January, 2024. Since that time the pantry has gratefully received around $2,700 in donations toward the new generator but is still a distance away from the $6000 to $7000 needed to buy a generator big enough to support the many appliances that must be temperature controlled to protect the pantry’s food. This is a reminder that your contributions could go a long way to helping out this community effort. The address to send a donation is at the bottom of the article. – Thank you!
January 31, 2024 article:
The First Baptist Church Pantry provides food to the community on a weekly basis, filling in the gaps for many families during these tough economic times as grocery prices soar and cuts have to be made in family budgets.
These times have also not been easy on volunteer organizations such as the food pantry when those cuts also occur in the homes of contributors, and donations lessen.
Couple that with a power surge that was the likely cause of the loss of a 20kw back up generator at the FBC Pantry building, and the volunteers are highly concerned about the investments that are already made at the pantry. They currently have seven freezers and three refrigerators that contain food for weekly handouts. A power outage could be devastating not only to the Pantry but those they serve. The previous generator that was destroyed was purchased through a grant and after two years they have been unable to garner funding for a replacement which would likely cost in the $5,000 range.
The volunteers are reaching out to the community in hopes that contributions will be made to replace the generator and insure that the food stays frozen in power loss times.
If you can contribute to this very worthy cause, please mail your contribution, clearly marked that it is for the generator fund to:
