Friday, May 30th storms left significant power outages in West Virginia affecting thousands of customers across the State of West Virginia. Hundreds in the Calhoun area. (View map for areas) .
In North Central WV, including the Big Springs area, severe storms and flooding caused widespread power outages. According to First Energy 500-1500 remain without power in that area as of 8:30 a.m. this morning.
MonPower’s map reports that 15,183 customers were without power as of 7:30 p.m. Friday evening with the most affected counties including Doddridge, Ritchie, Harrison, Monongalia, Marion, and Preston.
The outages were caused by a combination of heavy rain, high winds, and downed trees. Harrison County and Marion County 911 logs showed several flooding and water rescue calls.
From the statewide perspective approximately 20,000 customers remained without power yesterday evening.
