Grantsville VFD Responds to Midnight Truck Fire

The Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department was toned by Calhoun Control as well as Minnie Hamilton’s Ambulance for coverage around 12:36 a.m. for a truck fire in the Annamoriah area, 10,000 block, of West Little Kanawha Highway. Charles Bell, whose 2004 Ford truck was parked about 20 feet from the garage where he was working, heard a steady beeping sound, the sound of his electric ignition attempting to start followed by a fire which began inside the cab of truck.

Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department rolled three units to scene with two fire fighters responding in a personal vehicle. When the Firefighters arrived on scene the truck was fully engulfed with fire. By 1:30 a.m. the fire was finally extinguished with the use of water, foam and eventually a fire extinguisher. The first two methods would not completely extinguish the fire and it continued to flare back up until the fire extinguisher was used.

Grantsville units left scene and returned to the station where they were replenishing the Firetruck supplies when the tones dropped again for the same residence shortly before 2 a.m. Two trucks rolled the second time to the Bell residence. Mr. Bell was attempting to get the fire back out, from where a tire in the back of the truck reignited, when the crews made it to scene again. They made a quick extinguishment of the tire and returned to Station 100 once again.
