Trooper J.D. Richards of the West Virginia State Police was conducting stationary road patrol at the intersection of Rt. 16 and U. S. 33/119 in Arnoldsburg on October 1, 2023, when his doppler radar alarmed. He observed an ATV traveling at the speed of 66 mph in a 44 mph zone. After catching up with the vehicle at the 11,000 block of South Calhoun Highway, Millstone, WV the Trooper activated his overhead emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The ATV was determined to be a Can-Am Maverick 1000RR being driven by Dominic Ray Greathouse, age 21.
When Trooper Richards requested his drivers license he observed that Mr. Greathouse had slurred speech, bloodshot watery eyes, lack of coordination and the odor of intoxicants emanating from this breath when he spoke. He had trouble balancing and was swaying back and forth on his feet. After conducting a standardized field sobriety test and addition ARIDE tests Mr. Greathouse was determined to be impaired.
Dominic Ray Greathouse was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated and speeding. He was transported back to the WVSP Grantsville Detachment for a secondary chemical test of breath determined to be .172.
Mr. Greathouse is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
