GSU’S Dr. Lloyd Bone Names Finalist for 2024 WV Professor of the Y

Dr. Lloyd Bone, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Music at Glenville State University.

GLENVILLE, WV – Dr. Lloyd Bone, Department Chair and Associate Professor of Music at Glenville State University named a finalist for the 2024 West Virginia Professor of the Year award.

Presented by the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia, the award recognizes an outstanding faculty member each year from a West Virginia college or university. Established in 1984, the Foundation honors innovation and creativity among faculty members at both public and private institutions. The Professor of the Year program highlights these individuals’ achievements to the public. The winner receives a $10,000 cash award.

Dr. Bone has been a faculty member at GSU since 2004, directing the Pioneer Marching Band, the Brass Ensemble, and the Tuba & Euphonium Ensemble. He is also Chair of the Department of Fine Arts and actively involved in campus committees. Previously recognized for his contributions to music education, Dr. Bone was nominated for a Grammy Foundation award in 2013 and received the 2017 Outstanding Faculty Award from Glenville State.

Under his guidance, multiple student ensembles have performed at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference, where Dr. Bone has also been invited as a guest artist. He is the author ofGuide to the Euphonium Repertoire, the first comprehensive text on euphonium music.

Glenville State University President Dr. Mark A. Manchin praised Dr. Bone’s recognition: “Dr. Bone is an exceptional faculty member who truly takes the time to not only provide excellent instruction to our students, but also to get to know them on a personal level. He is an excellent recruiter for Glenville State’s fine arts programs. His enthusiasm is contagious, and he makes a point to stay connected with his students after they graduate.
