Clinics within the Healthy Minds network offer a range of compassionate mental health services while destigmatizing conditions and their treatment.

“We hope to demystify mental health,” James H. Berry, D.O., chair of the WVU Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, explained. “We realize some people may be reluctant to try to seek help for themselves – or for a loved one – because of misunderstandings about behavioral health. If we’re going to encourage overall wellness, a healthy mind is at the heart of that. So, ‘Healthy Minds’ is more than a name; helping people achieve mental wellness is our shared goal.”

The Healthy Minds name was first used a decade ago at a WVU Medicine behavioral health clinic in Monongalia County’s Cheat Lake area. The process of transitioning WVU Medicine’s mental health facilities to the new systemwide moniker began in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the need for services. United Summit Center is the largest WVU Medicine behavioral health facility to date to undergo a Healthy Minds identity refresh.

While Healthy Minds – Clarksburg serves patients from Harrison County, Healthy Minds also has locations in Lewis, Upshur, Braxton, Gilmer, and Doddridge counties, offering outpatient therapy, medication management, Assertive Community Treatment, waiver case management, residential treatment services, and multiple community-based programs.

“The Healthy Minds transition is a critical step in uniting our family of behavioral health clinics and facilities into a truly connected, collaborative network,” Michael A. Grace, Ed.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.H.E., president of WVU Hospitals and chief administrative officer of the WVU Health System, said. “The new, common name is symbolic of the continuity of care our patients can expect to receive, regardless of the location they visit.”

WVU Medicine will continue to roll out Healthy Minds branding in the coming months, including updates at its central behavioral health hospital, Chestnut Ridge Center.
