High Winds Topple Utility Pole causing risk of Fire

Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 340 Vineyard Lane, off of Pine Creek Road, at 2:48 p.m. where a utility pole had snapped due to aging wood and high winds. The location of the pole and downed lines was in the vicinity of the home owners pets causing a risk of injury and fire with a nearby holly tree, as well as being only a foot away from the roof of the home. The pets were moved and the fire department continued to monitor the issue for nearly four hours before leaving the scene when the power company arrived and cut power to the pole.

Dry conditions and gusty winds create an increased fire danger. Chief David Johnson encourages residents to avoid outdoor burning which can get out of hand quickly under these conditions. Please always refer to your local forestry department regarding burn laws.
