Hite Charged with Seven Counts of Failure to Register

Jacob Lee Hite was convicted of the crime of Child Neglect Resulting in Bodily Injury in Roane County, West Virginia on May 27th, 2016. The defendant resides at 223 Mill Street Grantsville, West Virginia, requiring him to register as a Child Abuser with the West Virginia State Police at the Grantsville Detachment. As a registered Child Abuser, the defendant is required to register with the State Police in the county in which they reside, work, attend school or training. They must register within three (3) days of release from an institution, or the date of conviction if given probation. The defendant must report to the local Detachment of the WV State Police within ten (10) days of any change in any of their registration information. The defendant is required to report their physical and mailing addresses, place of employment, school or training telephone numbers and children living within their residence.

On April 23rd, 2024 Trooper J.D. Richards went to 223 Mill Street, Grantsville, WV after receiving information that Mr. Hite was at that address. The Trooper was attempting to execute a capias out of Ritchie County on Mr. Hite when he learned that Mr. Hite was currently residing at the address but was not home. After discovering Hite’s location, Trooper Richards was able to execute the Ritchie County Capias.

On Monday, May 20th, 2024 Trooper Richards went to 223 Mill Street for an unrelated investigation and confirmed that Mr. Hite was still living at the residence and working at Flying W Plastics in Glenville, WV. Later on the same day information was received that Mr. Hite was a convicted child abuser with the responsibility to report to the WVSP at the Grantsville Detachment which he had not.

Trooper Richards pulled the last time Mr. Hite had registered, which was with the WVSP at the Harrisville Detachment on October 13th, 2022. On that registration Mr. Hite listed that he worked at GC Services in Huntington, WV which is not current. He also listed his mailing address as 111 W. Main Street, Apartment 3, Harrisville, WV which is not current. Mr. Hite’s last physical address was listed as 909 12th Street, Huntington, WV which is also, not current.

Trooper Richards was aware that there were four (4) children living at the residence where Mr. Hite’s is now residing, for which was supposed to have reported each one of those children, as well as his physical address within ten (10) days of beginning to reside at a a residence in addition to the mailing and work address.

Mr. Hite has a previous conviction of (child abuser) failure to register with a conviction date of 12/01/2022.

Jacob Lee Hite was arrested on seven (7) counts of Failure to register (child abuse) second offense and is currently in the WV Central Regional Jail awaiting trial. His bond was set at $50,000. He also faces 4 charges in Wood County: Driving Suspended, Improper Registration, Improper MVI and Possession of a controlled substance, as well as the Capias in Ritchie County. Bond is set at $1,000 for both Wood and Ritchie Counties.

State code for the Calhoun Charges are as follows:

15-13-7. Failure to register or provide notice of registration changes; penalty.
(a) Except as provided in this section, any person required to register under this article who knowingly provides false information or who refuses to provide accurate information when so required by this article, or who knowingly fails to register or knowingly fails to provide a change in any information when so required by this article, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than $250 nor more than $10,000 or imprisoned in jail not more than one year, or both: Provided, That each time the person has a change in any of the registration information as required by this article and fails to register the change or changes, each failure to register each separate item of information changed shall constitute a separate offense.

(b) Any person required to register under this article who is convicted of a second or subsequent offense of failing to register or provide a change in any information as required by this article who knowingly provides false information or who refuses to provide accurate information when so required by terms of this article or who knowingly fails to register or knowingly fails to provide a change in information as required by this article is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be imprisoned in a state correctional facility for not less than one year nor more than five years
