Johnson Arrested for May 2023 ATV Accident on Sand Ridge

In a Criminal Complaint filed June 15th, 2023 in Calhoun Magistrate Court by Corporal D.C. Moore of the West Virginia State Police, he stated that on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at approximately midnight he was dispatched to an ATV accident along State Route 33/119 in the area of 1867 Sand Ridge Road of Calhoun County, WV.

Upon arrival he found Kaleb Hall, lying next to a side by side on its side. A juvenile was laying along the ditch-line. Cpl. Moore assisted in stabilizing both of the occupants and assessing their injuries to determine which of the occupants needed more immediate attention. Kaleb had to be airlifted to CAMC General, while the juvenile was driven by Roane County EMS to CAMC General.

A third occupant in the side by side, Christopher Allen Johnson, walked away from the accident prior to the Cpl. Moore’s arrival. Mr Johnson had left the scene of the accident after someone had stopped to assist and call 911. Mr Johnson was picked up and brought back to the scene of the accident by a relative of his, which showed up at the scene. When Cpl. Moore spoke with Mr Johnson, his major concern was that he wanted everyone to know that he was not driving the ATV at the time of the wreck. Mr Johnson was driven by personal vehicle to Minnie Hamilton Health System in Grantsville for medical treatment.

After further investigation it was found that Mr. Johnson had been taking pictures and videos throughout the evening off and on, and posting them to his “Facebook” page. Some of the pictures showed the occupants, along with a video, which had been taken at the time of the crash. Several of the pictures, and the video, shows Mr Johnson in the drivers seat. The video shows Mr Johnson driving the ATV with his left hand while he videos the ride with his right hand. The video also shows that Mr Johnson is driving the ATV at approximately 64 mph just seconds before the crash happened.

It was found through the investigation that Mr Johnson’s operating privileges had been revoked for DUI. Cpl. Moore found that Mr Johnson was charged with DUI drugs from a traffic stop on 2/25/2022, in Calhoun County, with a conviction date of 8/25/2022. Mr Johnsons operators privileges were revoked for DUl on 11/10/2022.

On May, 13 2023, the officer received the medical records for two of the occupants in the ATV, Kaleb Hall, and the juvenile. Mr Hall’s injuries from the ATV accident were a complex laceration of the right ear, an avulsion of the right ear, a hematoma of right parietal scalp, right knee effusion, laceration of the right knee, right rib fracture, right tibial fracture, a separation of right acromioclavicular joint, thoracic spine fracture and an infection leaving Kaleb with Bells Palsy. The juvenile’s injuries were a compact fracture of the left wrist, a left radial head fracture, and multiple abrasions.

On June 8, 2023, Prosecuting Attorney Nigel Johnson sent a subpoena to Minnie Hamilton Health System for the medical records for Mr. Johnson. A check of the records showed that Mr. Johnson had a BAC of .113, which is more than the legal limit for operating a vehicle in the state of West Virginia.

Christopher Allen Johnson was arrested on June 18th, 2023 and taken to the WV Central Regional Jail where he is being held on $40,000 bond for the felony charges of 2 counts of DUI with Injury.

Christopher Johnson is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.
