On Tuesday, March 14, members of the Little Kanawha Conservation District from Calhoun, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt, and Wood counties met at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center. Despite a cold and snowy start to the day, the meeting was well attended and quite a success. Meeting space and technical assistance was provided by the Calhoun-Gilmer Innovations Simulated Workplace in what they are now calling their Calhoun-Gilmer Innovations Conference Facility.

Calhoun-Gilmer Innovations (CGI) moved to a new room this year, and after seeing a need to provide a service of offering space for meetings, and having the new space, decided to set up an area that would allow approximately 20 people to have meetings. CGI works with Coyote Beautiful Bistro, the Simulated Workplace in the Hospitality Lab to create a meeting experience that rivals most small conference centers. Coyote Beautiful tourism pathway students and their instructor Chef Liljon McCormick work with those requesting meeting space to create delicious breakfast and lunch options, and CGI Information Management pathway students design a beautiful menu to go along with the delicious food.
At the end of the LKCD meeting, participants moved to the Hospitality Lab where Coyote Beautiful served a delicious student-prepared meal consisting of char-grilled pork chops, rich cheddar mashed potatoes, and apple pie à la mode.

When asked for feedback about the meeting, Bob Buchanan, Chairman, Little Kanawha Conservation District Board of Supervisors stated, “It was our extreme honor to showcase a wonderful education facility that we have available to our young people in the Calhoun and Gilmer County area. Our District looks forward to the future in determining ways that we will be able to assist these gifted educators meet future needs for our young people.”
