Lloyd Burt Copen, 83, of Elizabeth, WV, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, April 7, 2024. Lloyd was born December 17, 1940, to the late Burton Copen and Ethel Smith Copen of Chestnut Run, Elizabeth, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Roy Copen; two sisters Mabel and Carolyn Copen; on daughter Dora Copen; one son Pernell “Bo” Harris; one grandson Nathaniel Harris; his ex-wife Sharon Harris Shuman and his life mate Linda Cunningham.
Lloyd loved spending time with his family, fishing, long talks, always having a story to tell and playing Bingo. Many memories were made and time was spent on the banks and wall at Wells Lock, camping and fishing at Burnsville Dam, Stonewall Jackson and Mountwood Park. He was a diligent worker, retiring from People’s Cartage, Inc, Parkersburg, WV. But, most of all, he was dedicated to his family.
Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory his children Beulah Little (John), Melissa Smith (Jerald Vlach) and Lloyd Copen Jr who lived and cared for him in his last years; grandchildren Amber, Buddy and Jeremy Harris, Juston Donato, Jonathan Little, Crystal Cogar (Edward), Scott Copen, Burton Paul Copen, Robert Smith (Kayla), Jennifer Griffin (Cleave), Trista Sims (Jusin), Jessica McKown (Glen), Ryan Copen, Renee Lynch (Matthew), Jerrod Serzynski, Jerel Serzynski; great-grandchildren Madison Braham (Austin), Madelynn Cogar, Hunter Starcher, Carlee Swartz, Waylon Cunningham, Evelynn Cunningham, Atreyu Copen, Bryson Copen, Shaylee Little, Brantley Little, Sarah Deem, Katelyn Deem, David Deem, Kaylin Smith, Thomas Copen, Paul Copen, Star Harris, Kyler Harris, Elijiah, Danica and Garfield, 4 sisters Betty Copen DeBerry Wines, Gladys Copen Fordyce, Mary Copen Enoch and Peggy Hendrickson, and many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friend.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Matheny Whited Funeral Home from 11:00am to 1:00 pm, funeral services will be at 1:00pm. A private burial will follow at Owl Hill Cemetery, alongside his parents and children. Matheny Whited Funeral Home was honored to assist the Copen family.
