M. Justine Rogers, 96, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Roane General Hospital in Spencer, West Virginia.
She was a 1946 graduate of Lewis County High School and married the late Lendol Paul Rogers in 1946. She was previously employed as a Keypunch Operator at Rubber Fabricators, a clerk at Calhoun General Hospital and worked with Holly Nester (where she gained technical knowledge of oil and gas accounting). With that experience coupled with that of her husband Lendol’s oil and gas field knowledge, they formed Rogers & Son Oil & Gas in 1971 to acquire, develop, and drill new oil and gas wells in central West Virginia. After the tragic passing of Lendol in 1974, she continued the oil and gas company with her son, Mike, for the next 48 years until she officially retired at the ripe young age of 90.
Justine was a long-time member of Alberts Chapel (Methodist) in Sand Ridge, WV and enjoyed studying and spreading the word of God to friends and family. As a strong woman of faith, she also wanted to ensure that all her family members were saved. Justine liked things done in a certain way and was never shy to teach you her ways of doing things.
She was born on April 14, 1928, in Lewis County, WV to the late James and Opal (Bush) Kemper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lendol Paul Rogers; a brother Bill Kemper; and a sister, Joann Wiant. She is survived by a brother, James Kemper of Camden, WV and two children: Mike (Nina) Rogers of Arnoldsburg, WV and Suzanne (Dave) Freshwater of Spencer, WV. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Scott Freshwater, Amy (Brett) Childress, Jessie (Mike) Wilson, Tracy (Sam) Mills, Eric Rogers, and Andrea (Quinton) Keaton; and her numerous loving great grandchildren, Derek & Isaac Freshwater, Ella & Garett Childress, Cyrena & Roman Wilson, and Clayton and Brooklin Mills, Allegra, Lincoln & Allistair Keaton. Not only will she be greatly missed by her family, but she will also be missed by her special friend and longtime neighbor Jill Skaggs who will forever be considered a part of our family.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 pm followed by a funeral service from 3:00-4:00 pm at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., Arnoldsburg, WV. A burial ceremony will then follow at Alberts Chapel Cemetery.
The family would also like to acknowledge and thank her home caregivers as well as the staff/nurses at Roane General Hospital for their loving care and compassion during the last several months.
