Melville was a long-time member and deacon of the Rosedale Baptist Church.  He enjoyed working with young people in VBS, 4-H, and FFA.  He was a 1961 graduate of Normantown High School and received the highest FFA honor of the American Farmer Degree.  Melville continued his love of farming by raising registered purebred Black Angus cattle for 20+ years on the family farm.  He was active in various agricultural organizations including Farm Bureau and the American  Angus Association.  Melville enjoyed mentoring the youth with his knowledge of sheep and cattle at the Gilmer County Farm Show.  Melville dedicated his life to fixing things from old cars to farm equipment and spent 30 years with the Consolidated Natural Gas Company as a machinist and mechanic.

In addition to his strong commitment to God and family, Melville cherished the freedom of his country.  He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 with a tour of duty in Vietnam.  His assignment was with the 57th Transportation Company hauling ammunition and supplies to the front lines.  The hand of God guided him and brought him home safely.

Melville will remain in all our hearts and minds as a devout Christian who loved the Lord, his country, his family, cattle, and was a good Samaritan to all those who were in need.
