Following steady rains most of the day on January 1, there was 1”.42 hundredth of an inch of rain fall reported on the National Weather Service (NOAA) gauge in Grantsville, WV with a NOAA prediction that the Little Kanawha would crest at 35.8 feet. As of 4 a.m. this morning the river level was 25.41 feet, with flood stage being 36 feet.
Various streams went out of their banks causing roads to be closed off from the water and rain soaked road banks caused area trees to fall. Cooler temperatures and precipitation in the form of snow will allow water levels to return to normal.
Today will have rain showers likely before 2pm, then a slight chance of showers after 4pm. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 42 by 5pm. West wind 6 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
