Shawn and Steve Johnson, as well as their sister Kari were raised at the Grantsville Town Pool from the time they were toddlers as their Mom, Saundra Johnson, managed and spent most of her summer days at the facility.
When I spoke to Shawn, I asked her what her mom would think of the opening today? She responded that her mom would have been “The 1982 Foundation’s biggest fan.” There is no doubt that would be true. Saundra Johnson was Grantsville’s biggest fan and undaunted supporter of the city in the best and worst of times.
”It broke her heart when the Grantsville Pool closed,” Shawn said. She added that “The county has no idea how many children were saved from drowning through the water education and opportunity that happened at the Grantsville Pool.”
And now the opportunity is back once more but in a way that you really do have to see to believe. The atmosphere at the Saundra Johnson Aquatic Center is like being at beach spa and a staycation is possible right at home!
The pool will be open from 12:00 noon to 6 p.m. with food, fun and plenty of things for families to do!!!!
