On September 3rd, 2022 Trooper J.D. Richards executed a lawful search warrant signed by Magistrate Jason Bennette for the property at the location of 2544 Big Root Road in Calhoun County. The search warrant was related to an incident where a neighbor had called into Calhoun 911 reporting suspicious activity at the address around midnight. When Trooper Richards arrived at the address the trailer was wide open and he stepped in to see if anyone had broken into the home. At that time he spotted firearms and drug paraphernalia which gave reason for the trooper to write and request a search warrant from Magistrate Bennette. Trooper Richards executed the search warrant for firearms and drugs at the residence at approximately 2:30 a.m.
The home was known by Trooper Richards to have two males who traveled back and forth from that address, one of which was identified as James Forest Blankenship age 37 and Terry W. Peggs, age 40. Both men had Triple I’s ran through WVSP Troop 4 Dispatch.
Located in the home was a Wesson 38 Special Revolver and a .22 caliber rifle. The firearms inside the home were accessible to anyone within the residence that would be prohibited, which was the case due to Mr. Peggs having a prior conviction of Felony Burglary on 12/17/2001 in the State of Virginia which is a violent crime that has the propensity to commit an act of violence against a person. A warrant was requested and given to Trooper Richards against Terry W. Peggs, Jr. for 2 Counts of Felony prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
On September 9, 2022 Trooper Richards received additional information that Terry Peggs, Jr. was carrying either openly or concealed a firearm described as a .22 caliber revolver and was known to bounce between the aforementioned address and another location of 1303 River Road in Grantsville.
Trooper Richards requested another search warrant from Magistrate Lora Davis for the described property and firearms. That search warrant was executed at approximately 7:30 p.m. where the Trooper found Mr. Peggs lying next to baggies of Methamphetamine and at the time got an additional search warrant also signed by Magistrate Lora Davis . On this search warrant the officer located 3 meth pipes with residue, a stir rod, 2 grams of white crystal substance believed to have been Methamphetamine, green leafy substance believed to have been marijuana and a Herter’s 2022 Caliber Revolver. The revolver was found in a black back pack in the living room of the River Road residence that had been described to the trooper earlier.
Terry W. Peggs, Jr. was arrested and incarcerated in the WV Central Regional Jail on the 12th day of October 2022.
