Matthew Verbus of Pine Creek was said to have gone airborne before landing in Pine Creek this evening amount 7 p.m.
Jesse Godfrey, who also lives on Pine Creek, attempted to convince Mr. Verbus to get off of the ATV but said that Verbus, who appeared to be drinking, was angry and took off at a high rate of speed before losing control of his ATV and landing in the Creek. Jesse and Earl Godfrey worked together to get Verbus out of the water and notified Calhoun Control. Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, Calhoun EMS and the WV State Police were dispatched to the scene. Verbus was taken by Ambulance to Minnie Hamilton Health System.
Brian Young, of the West Virginia State Police is the investigating officer.
