Local teen, Eli Randolph traveled to Killington, Vermont on September 16th and 17th went to compete in the Spartan North American championship. He competed in the male 14-17 division and won 3rd place representing Grantsville, West Virginia on the world stage.
Athletes that traveled from all over North America and parts of Europe to compete with every athlete having to qualify by placing well in a race prior to the championship. The championship race consisted of 14 miles of trail running with nearly 7,000 feet of elevation gain, 30 obstacles, including, heavy bag and bucket carry’s, hoists, hanging obstacles, barb wire crawls and the like. Parts of the course were above the cloud line.
Eli told Ridgeview News that “On day 2, I ran the sprint course, where I ran a 5k with 2,000 feet of gain and 20 obstacles, which I managed to win my age group, beating an entirely new group athletes that hadn’t run the race the day prior!”
Eli has been doing these races for a little over a year. Competing in 9 events and getting on the podium in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for 8 of them! The only one he didn’t podium in wasn’t a competitive race, but an “open” run for “fun”.
Nick is the son of Nick and Amanda Randolph of Grantsville, WV.
Congratulations to Eli Randolph on his amazing race!
