Red Devil Cheerleading looking to shake things up this basketball season

.

By Whitney Butler, Coach/Writer

It should come as no surprise that the Red Devil Cheerleaders are shaking things up at CMHS this winter. With an all new style of cheerleading, lots of questions are being raised. Throughout the football season, this group of athletes determined that their student section could use a different approach to their crowd leading.

So as we move farther into basketball you will notice that the cheerleaders are no longer on the sideline but have taken up cheering from the bleachers. This change was made in the hopes of taking a more proactive role in getting our student section to be more active and participate more in a more sportsman-like manner.’

While we hope to have a packed house every night, we are aware that this is a small town and many parents and fans have families and children of their own, that are also in other winter sports and activities. I, as their coach am also a mom of three who have their own sports schedules and those schedules don’t always align with the basketball schedules. So while they’d love to have their section filled they will continue to cheer on both our girls and boys basketball teams from their new position in the stands and encourage everyone to come out and catch a game or two. Both girls and boys programs have grown leaps and bounds over the last few years, with new faces and some returners to the sport that have been greatly missed in the past few seasons. But most importantly, we can see that Red Devil Fighting Spirit returning a little more each and every year.

This is a going to be an adjustment, not only for our cheerleaders, but for the fans as well. So please bear with us! We are excited for what the season has in store and are ready to take on the challenge of bringing back that Red Devil Zoo spirit! And that it is only possible if our students, parents and fans know what is going on!

Join us this week as our Red Devil Varsity Boys host the Doddridge County Bulldogs tonight, Tuesday Dec.12th and then our Lady Red Devils are back in action at home this Friday, December 15th against Point Pleasant.
